fingers crossed

It's a crisp, sunny, Sunday morning here in New Jersey and it would seem that Hurricane Earl is nowhere in sight. It's also game day for Sky Blue FC - in Atlanta...aaaand, I am indeed in New Jersey, dog sitting. However, it is a day filled with implications of the play-off variety; very exciting! My fingers are crossed and as Jenny Bindon would say, "they're getting sore from being crossed so long."

As for the ol' collarbone, I am excited to say that next week will be the eighth week! Hopefully the doctor will have some great news for me come Friday afternoon. Rehab has been going very well and it feels great to finally get back to running! Hurrah!

Also, on the World Cup front England has drawn Switzerland in the next round of qualifications. The first leg will be played September 12, oh how I wish I could be there. For more information check out http://www.thefa.com/England/womens-seniors

That's all for now, hopefully I'll have more to whinge about later ;)

creature comforts?

I'm afraid I have become a bit of an insomniac since small, furry creatures moved into the attic crawl space directly above my bedroom. You'd think that my new housemates would be a bit more in tune with my sleeping patterns, the least they could do is attempt to be piquant renters but no, they just have to keep on chewing insulation and forcing me to write blogs at 5am. (those of you reading this should thank them for making me write this, where are your manners?)

Too short to be an entry and too long to be a tweet, well, I suppose I'll continue on about something. How about a little start up clothing company out of Pacific Palisades, CA called Dez Clothing? Ok, I met Fed Bianchi when playing with the W-League's Pali Blues in 2008 at the time he came to our training sessions to make them even more competitive and quality then they already were. Like many blasts from the pasts, I got an email out of the blue from Fed about his new apparel line and BAM...Dez Clothing! (great story, I know)

So check this out;
"Dez (“ten” in Portuguese) is a line of clothing inspired by and dedicated to those players who not only wear the number 10 but who embody its profound meaning. These players do not just play the game but compose their movements and the movements of others into a manifest form of art – a poetic, momentous dance of skill and ingenuity – every time they set foot on the field." Even though I am a goalkeeper I can totally appreciate his concept, awesome. For more information go to www.dezclothing.com

I suppose I'll try and get some sleep. More later.

Supporters groups!

So I was thinking about things that could make people's experiences at our matches more enjoyable then they already are. I know that I love being apart of something special - something bigger then me and that is what I think makes teams so great. When I'm part of a team I know that I instantly have 20 brand new pals or even family members if you will. I even feel that the soccer community itself is that way. We all have one thing in common, we love soccer, football, futbol, whatever you want to call it an we should embrace it. The WPS, the W-Leauge, the WPSL, University programs, etc. would hugely benefit from each other if we saw these groups as teammates and not competitors. The point of these leagues and organizations from the grass roots levels and up is to develop talent and help players reach their goals; whatever they may be.

On that note I was thinking about clubs all over the world and their supporters groups. They have songs, common hangouts, and most of all their core groups stick together with their team through thick and thin - good and bad. To me, this is the sign of true support. Everyone can jump on a bandwagon, it happens all the time but to have a loyalty to a program is beyond any measure. I would love to get a seriously awesome team fan section going at Sky Blue FC matches with banners, scarves, and face paint! It would be incredible to see people tailgating or hanging out together, then walking into the ground /stadium at the same time singing songs and chants with their bells, whistles, banners, flags, drums and whatever else people can think of. I think we have a great opportunity here to make something really special happen - something that only happens in New Jersey, ONLY at Sky Bue FC games.

There are all sorts of nicknames we could use, here are a few I've come up with quickly: Sky Blue Crew? The Raritan end? Pride of Piscataway? Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I know this is only one little blog but I feel like this could be SO AWESOME if everyone bought in. Please feel free to question or comment. Create your own ideas, bring friends, go nuts!

Most sincerely yours,
